I’m most likely going to attend next January. Is there anything I should know? Any tips/advice? What should I expect? It will be my first real race. What should I spend money on, what isn’t worth it? What’s the best way to spectate? Is It possible to stay up? Do you nap for an hour at 3am? Are there other events to keep me busy before the race? Should I drink beer and pass out to the sound of V8s?

It’s colder than you expect.
Bring beer.

I also haven’t attended yet, but will try to be there in January. I will likely be crashing the Magnus Racing webcast (assuming they continue this tradition). I will def be hanging out with the team, regardless.

I’m thinking about going too. Big Oppo meetup? Who can get us pit passes?

I have been, its a great time, a great race. It is cooler than you think (fairly northern florida) so bring clothes to bundle up a bit on the overnight. I will be there as well this year, can’t wait.

You can bring your own stuff in?

Yeah. It was just $5 per car to drive into the infield and camp when I went a few years ago

I went a couple years ago. Sunday only, 6AM to race end. Here are my observations:
Camp or bring an RV. The one thing I realized is how much more fun I would be having If I could just sit back and have a beer or grill some meat.
GET. A. PIT. PASS. It’s an extra $15-20 and is worth every penny. Who knows, if you’re friendly enough you might get some broken bodywork or something.
If you’re not camping, don’t bother with a Grandstands pass. Just get an infield one; that’s the best experience. A lot of people will leave at midnight, go to a nearby hotel, and come back on Sunday at 6AM. If you’re not camping, this isn’t a bad idea.
It may be Florida, but it’s north Florida. In January. You might get into the 40’s at night, so bring some warmer clothes.
It is loud. Bring some kind of hearing protection. You won’t have to wear it all day, but there will come a point in the 24 hours where you’ll get tired of hearing the cars. Especially because the track is more or less a “bowl” so it never gets quiet (unless there’s a red flag).
Go with a group, or at least know someone who’s gonna be there.
In the infield, there’s a lot of manufacturer tents, stores/shops, and a lot of different food tents set up. Also if you have certain cars (Corvette, Porsche), they let you hang out catered tents.
Pre-race, there’s always qualifying and practice to watch. Plus you can always walk the pits.
I’m thinking about camping this year. Should be fun.

If you go at like 3am you can just kind of walk into the paddock if you act like you’re supposed to be there. The pit lane is a bit more controlled
